Imagination in print.

Why Sparrowshine?

When I pause and take in the world around me, I am rejuvenated by the beauty and the magic inherent in even the most common of Nature’s miracles.  The sparrow with its understated plumage and size embodies this quiet beauty.  But its constant presence, lighthearted vocalizations, and spritely movements can transport me.

About Renee Griffin

I need to create, to make something where nothing existed before.  Gardening, art, and cooking fuel this need- in no particular order.

Each week I spend countless hours in the kitchen feeding a voracious appetite for new and exotic flavors. In the late winter months, impatient for spring,  I sow rows of seeds in tiny plastic trays and nurture them under grow lights.  The spring and summer months lure me into the sun-warmed soil where I tend the garden.

And throughout this cycle I am sketching and painting, often inspired by the fruits of my labors.  I enjoy the connectedness of it all.  My loving family supports this craziness that feeds my soul and for that I am always grateful.

Studio Assistants

If you happen upon me during the creative process, you are likely to find one of my studio assistants.  Django and Carter, my faithful four-legged compadres, curl up on the floor nearby while I paint or work at the computer.  On the occasion that I am sketching in the kitchen or watching a creative tutorial, Poe will likely be doing his best R2D2 or making his case for freedom.

Carter –  Carter spent 16 years at my side, always exemplifying profound joy and love.  Although he no longer sleeps at my feet while I paint, he is always with me in my heart.  I miss him daily.

Django – A Smooth Fox Terrier rescued from the pound eleven years ago, his dark handsome face has whitened with age and I like to joke that he looks like a opossum now.  Django is just another way to spell TROUBLE!

Poe – Small but mighty!  The parrotlet is the smallest of the parrot family.  His diminutive size restricts his ability to speak, but he chatters, peeps, and chirps as well as R2D2!
